Babies Can’t Wait (BCW) is Georgia’s early intervention program that offers a variety of coordinated services for infants and toddlers with special needs, from birth to three years-of-age and their families. The purpose of BCW is to:

  • Provide early identification and screening of children with developmental delays and chronic health conditions.
  • Improve the developmental potential of infants and toddlers birth to age three, with developmental or chronic health conditions.
  • Support family members and caregivers to enhance children's learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.

 

 

 

 

 

Purpose

Provides the local health district with direct intervention services, support and education to children and families enrolled in the BCW program by using the Primary Service Provider (PSP) model.

 

Job Responsibilities

The special instructor position is referral based, which means the candidate would have to build a caseload and schedule individual appointments based on assigned referrals.  

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide early intervention services consistent with Georgia professional standards.
  • Design the learning environment and activities to encourage children to acquire developmental skills, cognition and social skills.
  • Work with family and caregivers to establish daily routines to increase learning.
  • Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Team of professionals; Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Service Coordinators, Board Certified Behavioral Analysts, Registered Behavioral Technicians and the BCW district office staff
  • Provide information and resources to families.
  • Provide families with corrective action and/or support to enhance child’s ability to benefit from their educational environment.
  • Adhere to all federal, state and district guidelines for early intervention.
  • Participate in Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings and planning as indicated.
  • Ensure all families are serviced in their natural (least restrictive) environment.
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways to maximize the child’s learning.
  • Implement curriculum that encourages achievement of goals on the IFSP.
  • Understand the special needs of the child and advocate for the child with others.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as scheduled/needed.
  • Maintain all documents as per district/state/federal policies and document findings timely, accurately and adhere to all early intervention guidelines.
  • Complete billing accurately and ethically for services rendered.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all child records, correspondence as per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Maintain professional relationships with team members and families.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures and safety guidelines

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have attained a bachelor's degree; preferred majors include Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child and Family Studies, and Early Intervention. Other related majors such as Education and Psychology will be considered if you can show proof that you have 18 credits worth of childhood development coursework.
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience working with children ages birth to 3-years-old, who have a delay in their development and/or an established health condition.
  • Candidates must have excellent communication skills and be able to coach parents using active problem solving and training skills.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Complete competencies as state mandated.
  • Official college transcripts are required

 

** This position is a contract position. Caseload size and individual schedules are flexible and determined based on district need and provider availability. Reimbursement for services provided are based on current Medicaid Rates.

  • All applicants are required to pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
  • Certificate of Automobile Insurance is required.

 

Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND eligibility to be licensed OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in social service delivery.
